Chicago, IL… State Representative Michael McAuliffe (R-Chicago) was able to secure capital grants for some of the communities in his district to be used for essential projects.
Three $100,000 grants were awarded to the village of Niles, village of Norridge and Ridgewood High School District 234.
The village of Niles will use this money to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility by removing and replacing sidewalks, curbs and gutters that are deteriorating and hazardous to the public.
The grant awarded to the village of Norridge will be used to pay the bills regarding improvements done within the village from July 2012 to June 2011. Some of these improvements include installing security cameras at various village facilities, replacing deteriorating fencing, parking construction and many other projects.
Ridgewood High School District 234 will use the grant to renovate a former classroom into a multi-functional learning space and update school and district offices.

Springfield, IL… State Representative Michael McAuliffe (R-Chicago) was pleased to see House Bill 4442 pass the House unanimously on Tuesday.
The bill amends the Department of Veterans Affairs Act regarding the families of military personnel killed in the line of duty, also known as Gold Star Families. Originally, the legislation stated that family members of military personnel who have perished while serving were allowed to stay in veteran homes, but it only signified biological children.

Springfield, IL… State Representative Michael McAuliffe (R-Chicago) was one of forty legislators and Springfield city officials to participate in the Fire Ops 101 Training Session on Tuesday.
Rep. McAuliffe, suited up in the full firefighter ensemble, underwent the intensive exercises firefighters go through to help him and other legislators better understand daily challenges by emergency response workers.

It is crucial that we all work together in cutting costs and spending in any way we can without penalizing the taxpayers of Illinois.”
